Aqleira Zyrial has been a first-year sorceress at the School of Sorcery, Augurium, for at least a month. She's already become known for her mischievous nature, and also her power. She's a first year and already mastering fire forms. Everyone thinks that soon, she'll master water forms as well - the hardest ones in the Elemental curriculum. Aqleira also loves tricking and pranking people. But when one of her pranks goes too far, the descendant of a feared and mostly forgotten line of mages catches wind about her power from the magical disturbance it causes... and realises that this student sorceress could be the key to a long-lost family heirloom that she's determined to get back: for both its importance to her family and its magical properties. Soon after, Aqleira keeps getting mysteriously attacked, but the creatures don't seem to want to kill her. They seem to be holding back. And a disturbance is detected in the vicinity... Realising this could be a way to get rid of Aqleira, Quivlis Sufiran - the quivlis who hates her - convinces Headmaster Vylran that this could be a way to 'test' the students, so he sends a team of them to investigate and possibly end the cause.
