Han Solo is dead, Starkiller Base has been destroyed by the Resistance, and Finn and Rey have been captured by The First Order. The Resistance is desperately trying to free them, but is after the fourth attempt close to giving up. Rey is strong with the force, and Snoke is trying to lure her to the dark side, using the connection she has with Kylo Ren. But after killing his father, the fight in the snow with Rey, and the destruction of Starkiller base, Kylo has pulled himself away from everyone. He's fractured between the dark and the light.
