The twenty-eighth entry of the 2020-2021 Film Journal is "Dune (2021)". In this special installment, I recount my personal history with Frank Herbert's classic tale and the memorable experience of seeing this film at a Thursday night preview screening. Then, I examine the quality of this adaptation as a cinema and "Dune" fan: a consideration of the inherent magic and difficulties these works always bring to filmmakers and audiences.

We know the tale of his father Paul Atreides, called Muad'Dib by the people of Arrakis. We know his own fate after almost three thousand years of ruling the Empire. But here at last will be the undertaking of the tale of his early days as the future God-Emperor Leto II starts down the Golden Path. Like Leto, I take this challenge upon myself. Unlike him, I can not yet see where this path will lead. With the books as my guide, I allow Leto to guide me along his path and to tell his story.

DISCLAIMER : trigger warning for gr@pe in part 4 (it is not bcs I'm insane tho that's debatable but I did this scene to really show how inhumane the harkonnens are that they are beyond evil I am not a creep who enjoys these things do not get me wrong) Note: this is still in work and I've only written 40 pages. I'll try to be consistent but I have to say I'm not and writers block occurs often, the description is detailed way past what I've written, that's bcs I've thought all the main plot out and need to write it. I'm trying my best to make it feel like a dune book whilst reading, but I am 14 and have no idea how to write philosophy, phycology and politics so I'm doing my best Welp. This is a story taking place right after the end of Dune 2 (events based on the movie ending, not the book). This fanfiction gives light to the ignored main characters of the story, specifically the women (Chani, Irulan and Lady Fenring) and focuses on the event leading to messiah. I started this fanfiction out of pure spite and annoyance to the people who said 'omg chani left she's not coming back she's gonna be the villain in Dune 3'. No, Paul said he saw her come back and what Paul sees in the future is an absolute, so I made this with a goal in mind to show how Chani's return could be made, and this is just one form of many. Additionally I found it interesting to write about restoring house Harkonnen and the Bene Gesserit plotting against Paul to begin. Bless the maker and his waters, bless the coming and going of him.
