"𝘋𝘰𝘯'𝘵. 𝘔𝘰𝘷𝘦." I heard a rough, calm, but frightened voice whisper in my ear. Cold hands held me in place behind the dumpsters, it was a sharp contrast compared to my usually warm arms. 𝘚𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘸 𝘮𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘸𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢 𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘬 𝘵𝘰𝘱. I cursed myself mentally. I glanced up at the person holding me tight, it was just my brother, Cable. Who had witnessed the danger and acted on impulse? You might be thinking of the high school's famous track star... But Cable Hamlin wasn't that guy anymore. Nobody was the same, not after doomsday hit. Not after everything was decaying and the whole world- at least the world we knew- was falling into tiny pieces. I snapped out of my thoughts as I heard a scream of terror. Slowly, I hastily peeked around the corner of the dumpster. And there they were... those sickening creatures tearing an innocent victim limb from limb. The same monsters that had taken Dad, then Mom. The reason we were in this hellhole. I never thought the streets of Cheyenne could smell so horrid, more horrid than the dead raccoon that was shot by our house... but here we were. We were alive, hiding, surviving... barely. But even as I watched the undead rip the poor victim apart, I questioned in my mind: Will we ever make it out alive?
