1 month after Shepard sacrificed herself to save the entire galaxy, the Normandy lies dormant on an uncharted jungle planet. The red wave of energy fried most of the Normandy's systems, and EDI has been unresponsive. In Shepard's absence, Garrus has begun taking a leadership role. trying to send out a distress call, a civilian cargo ship in the next system over heeds the call. Upon hearing of the Normandy crew's finding, Admiral Hackett relays a message. Shepard's body has been found. Any and all criticisms are very welcome, I'm making this story out of love for the characters.

While John blasted Reapers and saved civilizations, Aster dealt with the threats that festered in the shadows, the ones too politically inconvenient for the Council to acknowledge publicly. This time, it was an illegal AI. Rumors whispered through the extranet about a potentially dangerous, sentient program being developed at the prestigious Thessian Science Academy. The Council, naturally, wanted plausible deniability. The Reapers are destroyed. The war had been won. But another battle is on the horizon. Commander Shepard has sacrificed everything for the galaxy. Was the price too high? So it's been a year since I finished the Mass Effect trilogy and I found this unfinished fanfic I had in my drafts about that *ehem* ending. I figured, hey, why not finish it? Takes place immediately after the events of Mass Effect 3. Synthesis ending. Femshep. Shakarian. I am not a pro. I have never written anything for the public before. I finished the series for the 800th time, and, as usual, was disappointed with the ending, and the only way to get the possibilities to stop bouncing around my head was to give them life. I am only posting them here in hopes it can quelm the disappointment in like-minded fans. I have no rights to bioware's characters or the universe they live in. Nor the cover art, which I snagged from Google.

With colonies going dark and the Reapers inching ever closer, its up to the Guardians to find out why and put a stop to it. But with how much time that has gone by, the ones they can trust are themselves and each other...

The Reapers. What if we just said "fuck that" and cut them from the script? Well, that's my intention here. I'm mixing up Shepard's backstory to the max to try and add on to the gritty side of what falling through the cracks really feels like. Akuze, the Skillian Blitz and the Ruthless origins are all cannon in this personal AU, as well as the Mindoir and Orphan, except instead of being an Orphan on Earth, its Omega. I feel like the space kid is a little too idyllic for what I'm going for. Not to mention I plan on Shepard being a bit on the older side. How long would it take for a disillusioned Commander Shepard to finally cut the red tape and leave the Alliance? Who all will Shepard meet now that the Reapers are out of the picture, not forcing the script in to a funnel? Will she still make friends with our beloved Mass Effect cast? Or will they go completely different routes? Let's find out.
