Daydreams and night dreams of the discoveries of adolescence, of tenderness, of first kiss, flicker and then disappear. I float away on my king-size waterbed and walk in the warm night air and I hope ...I hope ...for anything to happen!!! But candles only cast shadows on my mirror-tiled walls and reflect endlessly a crushing reality; it's just me ...just me alone, in the world, in this desperately empty decade of freedom. I spiraled out of the rebellion of the 60's and landed here on this suburban shore, this desert island of my life.

If I were not born different I might have imagined it for myself in some secret longing. Perhaps in the rote activity of another life I would feel emptiness and there in my dreams I would escape. In these dreams I might slip outside the stale confines of my life and look into a window with eyes wide open and see a different picture than I was meant to see. There in the cool fresh air I might turn away, I might wander into the inviting darkness. I might set out on an adventure and leave behind my self-imposed obligations. As I walk away I might sense my connection to the universe, my connection to the magic of my surroundings, my body, my mind and I might never look back.
