Will gets a boyfriend and Mike can't figure out why it makes him angry

It's late October of 1987 and everyone is anxious as they approach Will's trauma anniversary. The Wheelers and the Byers share a busy home that Joyce is trying to move out of to get a place of their own. Mike notices that Will is acting different: quiet, melancholic, and restless. Everyone chalks it up to the dreaded November 6th approaching, but could it be something more? Hope y'all enjoy the shitty cover I made on canva :)

The Byers family could not have moved back to Hawkins at a worse time. There was an outbreak of the "Hanahaki Disease," and anyone with an unrequited love was vulnerable to becoming infected with flowers growing inside their lungs. Will had heard about this and was fully anticipating the first flower, but instead, he hears his sister coughing in the bathroom.

A mini story. Mike wheeler and Will byers have some unresolved tension that needs to be sorted out before it all boils over. Maybe it already had. Or maybe the rain did its part in cutting through all the bullshit.

Holly thinks about the note that Mike never gave to Will. She remembers that weird rock song Mike and Will had been listening to on Christmas night, and how Mike seemed to play that song again at every given opportunity. She remembers Will's soft smile when Mike whispered something in his ear. She remembers things from further back, like how Will was at their house more often than Mike's other friends. Or how they used to hold hands and hug all the time before- Before. Or: Holly watches from afar as Mike Wheeler slowly comes to terms with his love for Will Byers.

Mike leaves Hawkins unexpectedly on Halloween 1983 and loses touch with Will. When Mike arrives back in Hawkins nearly 10 years later, Will doesn't recognize him. This story is about Will finding out who he is and why he left.
