During a trip to a wedding in Italy, 16-year-old Thomas Abbott meets the very charming Fidelio Albelli when he takes the son of the newly-weds to a playground. Thomas falls head over heels in love with the boy, but doubts if he will ever see him again. That is, until his school starts an exchange programme with a school in Venice and he is forced to join.
