When it came close to her having to merge with her sister Cassie she wanted to find a way to keep her sister alive no matter what and tried to get help but was interrupted by her coven who ended up taking her sister away from her and trapping her in a prison world. While she painfully awaited for her torment to be ended someone else appears in the prison with her, a teenager Malachai 'kai' Parker. She tries to get to know him but she soon realises that he doesn't care about her as much as he pretended too and thinks she's a big part of the reason why he was put there in the first place. Eventually they manage to escape and Desiree tries to flee leaving Kai and the rest of the clan drama behind,Seeing a chance to finally go after what she wanted most to be reunited with her sister. Kai ruins the plans with a sinister plot, Getting wrapped up trying to stop him she ends up dying along with the rest of the clan. Before they know it both Kai and herself wake in transition from vampire blood. Eventually things lead her to the beautiful french quarter where she is about to have even more adventure enter her life. She quickly finds herself tangled up in the Mikaelson family and everything that comes with it which brings her lots of unexpected twists and turns including falling in love.
