On November 15th, an unprecedented event took place: thousands of Mexicans took to the streets to protest the government's ineptitude, corruption, and complicity with organized crime-complicity that became even more evident after the murder of Carlos Manzo and the indifferent way some politicians responded to the tragedy.
The march began, and it was clear that some of us were first-time protesters. We gradually shed our fear as we shouted our demands and coordinated our voices. Getting feedback from more experienced marchers-those who already had "battle scars"-helped us a lot. We fought our inexperience with youthful energy and a desire for freedom, without masks, speaking honestly about how we perceive the results this government has delivered to Mexico, what frustrates us, and what we hope will improve over time so we can climb out of the hell many of us feel into the fair Mexico we all want.
