Larmina Bari is a Genetics and Genomics student at Columbia University. After her family fled war-torn Afghanistan in 2002, Larmina was raised a perpetual nomad, never settling in one place for more than a year. Growing up working in the idyllic tea fields of Assam in India, the mountainous villages of Zagoria in Greece and on the serene lakes of Kitzbuhel Tirol in Austria was ostensibly a gift, but it was an often isolated and lonely upbringing. Larmina's father, a former geneticist - discredited and shamed in his later years - had died just months after arriving in London when lamina was 15 years old. Her father's stories had filled her with intrigue about evolution and the possibility of accelerating human development by genetic manipulation. This intrigue, combined perhaps with a sense of duty, had led Larmina to enrol at Columbia University and to delve deeper into her father's studies. What she would learn, though, would raise dangerous questions about her father's work, and throw her own life under a very illuminating and perilous spotlight.
