1952. Two years since linguist Francis Fairfax arrived on Gersom, the largest island in an archipelago that has intrigued researchers for decades, from its anomalistic appearance in the middle of Atlantic to its inexplicably well-preserved artifacts. Two years since the storms began, keeping anyone from going, and anyone from coming. The sea tempts a permanent escape, and Francis has all but given up his work finishing a translation of a Gersomish epic that his grandfather began. Then in washes Peter, a native of Gersom. His arrival is as mysterious as his homeland, and unpredictable as the weather. Despite Francis' antisocial nature, he is the only one who can talk to Peter, and thus the one expected to house him. As another unbearable winter befalls the island, Francis discovers that Peter may be the key to understanding the epic, himself, and, perhaps, escape.

Don't look out into the darkness. Sacrifice and pray. And never dare to leave the convent. These are the sacred rules to follow if you want to survive the creatures lurking outside - and the Order of Wolves, which ensures the village's safety with watchful eyes. So, what to do when you accidentally violate one of them on the very first night and receive a divination you shouldn't outlive? However, it's not Saskia they hold responsible, but her fellow sister Katinka. When coldblooded Prince Silvan von Winterthal and his order take her, Saskia is eager to break all those rules at once and more to get her back. And if she must risk her own life making a deal with a devil while the Wild Hunt ravages the lands, she will. ______________ ONC 2024 ENTRY: Prompts 25, 28, 95

A little town in Brittany on the coast, forgotten but with pride. A freighter steams in one day in 1984. A man alights but doesn't know why he's there, just that his recently deceased father urged him, "Go to Bremarche," he says on his death bed. So Commander Hamilton-Stays, RN ret'd, does as instructed, entering a new world where the separatist movement is still fighting, forty years after the liberation of France. But it's not a war we would recognise, far too covert and subtle, yet dangerous all the same. Eloise Garunde, whose family stretch back a thousand years in Bremarche, would willingly help her new friend, except she is as lost as he is. It takes two young Germans, Gunter the history professor and Hilda, his awkward secretary, to bring some order to the confusion. But will the historians be able to unravel the mystery of Bremache?

Every country has had its golden age, when that is depends on who you ask. What if those had all happened at the same time... under one leader? Susan's village has enjoyed being ignored by the Empire other than the taxes they pay every month, but when Germany becomes part of an Emorian competition, Susan and her brother's friend Tretan are chosen to represent their province. For Susan who has grown up hunting (illegally) the competition is easy at first, and if she wins she will be able to go home and not pay taxes. But over the course of the challenges she sees the extent Empire's depravity for the first time. Can the Emperor be trusted to let her go home? Or will she become a just another slave for a corrupt government?

This poem's anti-capitalist theme is simple enough to understand. I'd like to point out that this poem is an example of alliterative verse, a type of meter common in older Germanic poetry. Pay careful attention to the alliteration in this poem.
