The young mermaid named Mai and merman Azul had been sent from their kingdom to the land in search of a magical blue pearl. She has been chosen along with her brother Azul because the blue pearl represented them. When they were born her mother noticed how her hair glowed under the moonlight and how her brother's blue eyes lit up. With that noted King Neptune had given them the pearl, but for safety he kept in on his crown along with 7 other pearls. Up in the land she meets a boy who causes her some distraction from her mission. The young boy 17 years of age begins to develop feelings for Mai. Luke Evans, a teenager that attends Riverton High and is locally known for his band 'Maniacal Laughter'. His mother is a drunk and his father had left them both at a young age. Luke works as a waiter at 'Seaside Delight' to pay the rent at his house. In where he meets a blue-haired girl named Mai Brooks that causes him to have mixed emotions.
