Wellsbury wasn't meant to be permanent. Just another town that Georgia, his mother, could charm her way into - another school to despise, another fresh start to suffer, another place to keep his head down and get through. They never stuck around long.
Montana Miller, the eldest of his three siblings, was something that was an anomaly in Wellbury's perfectly curated image. And he had no plans on changing. He didn't expect to care; not about the people, not about the teachers and definitely not about the girl assigned to tutor him so he wouldn't fail his sophomore year again.

Isabelle Hart was polite in the way most girls in Wellsbury were- and also a straight A student. It was much to her surprise that she was tasked with tutoring the new student, Montana Miller, but she didn't flinch when he snapped at her, she didn't shrink when he shut down. She asked careful questions and didn't push when he wouldn't answer. And somehow, that made him want to.
She shouldn't matter. But she does. And that is what threatened him the most.
