Ulfgar went back towards his cell in the temple cloister on heavy feet, his mind running in a million different directions. Were all the stories of sea monsters he'd heard, from sailors all over the world, actually true?
This story leads directly on from The Cult of the Eternal Paladin, and is the second part of a collection of tales which together conclude the story of Ulfgar.
It is vital that readers understand who Ulfgar is before embarking on this story or else some of the things that he is able to do in this tale will not make sense. At the very least, Ulfgar's Introduction and Epilogue from Ulfgar's journal should be read, as should the book immediately preceding this tale, The Cult of the Eternal Paladin. If these have been skipped, it is important to understand that although Ulfgar appears physically to be an ordinary dwarf and servant of Herpania, goddess of Justice, he has at this point lived more than one and a half thousand years longer than most dwarves, and is in effect functionally immortal due to being given the lifespan of a dragon. He has seership skills and is a prophet, he knows a lot of personal magic and is an accomplished mage, and is on first name terms with all the deities and has served them all over his lifetime. His journal, published here on Wattpad, is also a published book in-world, and consequently he now has a cult following who all have memorised his journal, who all adore him and who attempt to emulate him and put his teachings into practise in their lives.
