When a man was home alone he came up with an idea. He walked the dark streets and alleyways to find stray people and learn about each one individually. Once he finds those worthy of his time he sets out to kidnap them. After finding enough people he keeps them in an abandoned house to preform a social experiment. He comes up with theories of how each one would cope and or socialize with each other. The first 10 chapters are just the backgrounds of each character and how I picture them to look.
