A fantasy novel set in the Austrian alps, in which a magical city and its people-as all of magic society-have lived in isolation for centuries. Magic has been on the decline for as long as they can remember, and the people, desperate for solutions, turned to science as the future of its society, creating a gap in social classes by turning magic into a luxury. The growing social and political unrest comes to a peak when magical creatures start to disappear and magic society is threatened to be exposed. A collection of tales about people existing in this fantastic world of uncertainty who are more than meets the eye: A young teacher who wants to shape minds, a cryptozoologist and her assistants trying to solve the riddle around the disappearance of magic, a young man who curses a thief on accident, a disabled woman who wants to be part of the fairy guard, a man with a secret trying to right a wrong, a girl posessing a power she cannot control and a boy who is not supposed to be here at all, as well as the person who takes his place.
