After he stumbled out of the Floo into Borgin and Burkes, he used his Metamorphmagus abilities to change his appearance to represent a young woman. Knockturn alley never knew that it was Harry Potter who was helping them. And that's how Harry became known as Merlin's Gift to those in Knockturn alley.
