As infected "zombies" overrun the city, Parker escapes through underground tunnels and across the harbor with the idols. Seeking refuge on Lantau Island, the group discovers that the outbreak is not a mere viral pandemic, but an ancient, living curse driven by a entity known as the "Hollow Root". She encounters root-worshipping cultists, mutated creatures, and surreal visions. As she bonds with her allies and navigates dangerous ruins, she discovers that the Root perceives her as its intended vessel or "reflection." After confronting mutated versions of themselve and rejecting the entity's influence, they unleash a counter-attack that forces the infection to recede, leaving her with a mysterious connection to the entity as the surviving group resolves to rebuild the city. Investigating the new mechanical-organic signal beneath Central, Parker and her allies awaken the "Machine Root" -a hybrid system led by "The Architect," who seeks to forcibly integrate humanity into a hive mind. To combat this threat, the group embarks on a peril-filled journey through forgotten, ancient tunnels beneath Victoria Harbour and Kowloon Walled City, uncovering that the Root is actually an ancient entity predating modern Hong Kong. Along the way, she encounters a corrupted version of Taehyung, who sacrifices himself to aid the team. Reaching the deepest subterranean cathedral, she claims the ancient Rootless Blade-a weapon capable of severing memory and root connections- and drives it into the core, purging the corruption and freeing the city once again.
