The host lost control of themselves and acted like animals. Eventually it became so bad thqt the virus becqme blood born. The only way to kill them was a bullet or blow to the head. In a way you could call them zombies. But i call them walkers. Leaving wasnt an option either foreign countries have now shunned us for good. Not wanted the virus or to deal americans any longer. Im pretty sure they were already infected anyways since the virus spread so quickly. In reality, Humanity was doomed....
