After a horrible accident, Sophie decided that she was going to follow her dreams of becoming a nurse and moved to London where she completed her training. When the war broke out she immediately signed up to help with the war effort and was sent to France where she stayed until the end. However, just like everyone else that went away when she returned she was a ghost of her former self and decided that she was no longer suitable to provide care to her patients, forcing herself to leave her career and return home to Small Heath where everyone she left behind all those years ago still resided.

A year after the two girls returned, the town began to get more interesting, the Shelby's Brothers were rising their company. Astella's father was planning to bring down the Shelby family and force his daughter to leave Birmingham with or without her other brother's permission. Natasha opens up to her family about what she was really doing in university apart from studying with Astella. Astella and Natasha work with the Shelby Brothers with the company and their wars, neither believing it should just be a man's business to get themselves dirty.
