Everyone knows Elena.
At twenty-two, she is one of the most recognizable models in the world. Her face is on magazine covers, billboards, and advertisements across the country. Wherever she goes, cameras follow. Fans adore her, photographers chase her, and the media seems determined to turn every part of her life into a story.
But fame has never given Elena the life people imagine.
Behind the perfect photographs is a young woman who has spent years being controlled, criticized, and taught to hide anything that might make her seem less than perfect. Her mother is the one person Elena can never seem to escape-and despite everything, Elena still loves her.
There is another part of Elena's life almost nobody knows about.
She has always wanted to sing.
Then, in 1984, at the height of Thriller's success, Elena receives an invitation to the Grammys. Two weeks later, in a room filled with celebrities, cameras, and some of the biggest names in music, she meets Michael Jackson.
Michael is already one of the most famous people on earth.
Elena is already accustomed to living under a spotlight.
Neither of them expects to find someone who understands what it feels like to be watched by the entire world while desperately wanting a place where they can simply be themselves.
But the world is watching.
And the media doesn't know the difference between a private life and a story worth selling.
Because when the lights go down, that's when the real story begins.
