Set in a Sydney private school, in 1979, a group of twelve -year-old boys band together to plan an audacious lunchtime escape, right under the noses of their authoritarian teachers. And their objective? To scoff down a Big Mac at their local McDonald's.
Inspired by Paul Brickhill's classic novel of a similar name - together with the 1963 movie - "The Great-ish Escape" is a story of mateship, cunning, daring and gluttony.
All the events in this short story seemed very real when imagined by the author as he daydreamed his way through Year 6. If asked, the school would deny that the escape ever happened.
