I had an assignment in English to rewrite a scene from The Great Gatsby in another character's point of view, and this is what I came up with. Edit: This assignment is personally significant to me and that's why I had to share it with my Wattpad family. It was the first short story I've written, and it was the piece that unintentionally made me realize how amazing writing could be. Because of this story, I started writing and found something that would continue to be the greatest thing in my life. Edit 2: Since this is the first short story I've ever written, there are several mistakes in here (mostly just switching from past to present tense). I don't want to change/edit anything, because I love to read this rewrite and think about how far I have come in the past seven years since I've written this. I just wanted my readers to know that this will contain mistakes, but they are just as special to me as the story itself. However, these mistakes won't show up in any other works of mine.

Gatsby woke up slowly, eyelids drooping heavily as he struggled to keep awake. His mouth felt like cotton, and his limbs numb. "Nick..." Gatsby has awoken. Things will be revealed, and times will get harder for the little family. The year is 1928, and things are going to take a huge drop.

The year is 1925, The roaring twenties. The music is jumpin' , the ladies are flappin', and racism is more alive then ever. Mr. Pierre Coats, a handsome white man, moves to New York, New York City in order to extend his Cigar Company. Ana Mae, is a young and beautiful African american women finally gets her first job as a maid. Shes young , vibrant, and curious. But when she meets her boss, her colorful world goes from glitz and glam to black and white. Literally.

High school senior, Nick Carraway, moves to New York and attends the same school as his cousin, Daisy. Nick meets many odd characters in his new school, by far the most intriguing being Jay Gatsby. Dying to know more about the elusive Gatsby, Nick befriends him and starts of unearth many secrets about the past of West Egg. Nick figures out where he belongs in the Great Gatsby's story; a story that will no doubt be filled with secrets, heartbreak, and love. Story is original, but characters belong to F. Scott Fitzgerald.
