This is a story of parents and children, love and hate, hope and dismay as characters question if it's impossible to change the fates which have been decreed for them. This is a poem I wrote for the Rewind The Classics 2021 contest. The challenge was to chose a classic and retell it with a twist. I chose the Iliad, specifically the relationship between Achilles and Briseis within it. I wrote the poem in the format of a tanka. A tanka is a poem in which each line has a certain number of syllables, the sequence is 5, 7, 5, 7, 7. The poem had to be 300 words so the sequence repeats until the very last word of this poem.
