This excerpt takes place early on, Colress, still fragile from his punishment, is being sent to work here and there in the court, wherever someone with a mind for numbers or a good writing hand is needed. Shauntal, up in the archive tower was pleasant enough. General Marshall, well, that was a day to forget. Lord Grimsley, the treasurer, is... quite a character to work for. This is co-written with ChatGPT- what I do is write the complete scene in indirect prose and let GPT turn it into direct prose, adding the fiddly details like descriptions and incidental dialogue, stitching and rewriting aftwerards where needed. I've tried writing alone, but I end up taking a week to write a paragraph, at least with LLMs I don't spend 20 minutes trying to remember the word "gable".]
