Three children meet in the bright hum of a kindergarten classroom: Claire, all sunlight and big plans; Zack, quiet and serious beyond his years; and Tobias, whose worn raccoon plush and watchful eyes never stray far from the other two. Their friendship begins with crayons and crooked towers, but even in those first innocent moments, Tobias clings to them with an intensity that doesn't quite fit the room's soft colors. Claire's laugh rings too bright, Zack's careful hands seem too fragile-and Tobias holds their small world together as if he already senses how easily things, and people, can be lost.
