Grow-up Stories

Nobody knew what happened that day in the woods, a night like every other. It was their normal routine, meet half way down the pathway at midnight. They had been doing it since they were 6, so what was so different when they parted ways. "Goodnight Georgie!" he called. His voice sounded distant, like something wasn't right. Perhaps, he too, were in shock. He was the one who almost drowned. "Goodnight!" His worries could wait, because as long as he was here, with him, everything was perfect. Almost everything.... Little did he know that this whole night was a lie, that every day that passed was simply his imagination spinning a story of a lifetime he could only wish would happen.
