There was a little Barn Swallow.
His little nest occupied every corner of his heart, a home built without asking, a shelter woven from longing and devotion.
He had made that nest in the hollow of his chest, in the marrow of his bones, in the spaces between heartbeats where no one else had ever been allowed to settle.
And still the bird did not come.
Still the swallow did not return to the only place that had ever been carved for it.
