Lalani Belmont, an 8th grader in a new school, is facing some difficulties. A new curriculum, but that could be expected. Racism (it's 2016, are you serious?) and something not easily as adjusted to as a new curriculum, or something as ignorable as racism. Growing up all catholic Italian you are told that if you're not straight, it's not right. After a year of soul searching Lalani realizes that she is in fact a part of the LGBT spectrum. But she doesn't know which part. That's when she meets Delaney, the co-founder of a GSA (gay-straight alliance) in her own school, and a trans girl herself, and Delaney may just be the guide Lalani's always needed.
