She feels appalled by the treatment of the Royals but as their panic increases so do the killings starting with King Louis and his Wife Queen Marie Antoinette. Left behind in a failed attempt to flee, Charlotte is found by a young urchin named François in the ruins of her looted house can she be saved from the terrifying Madame Guillotine or shall she follow her family.

Alayna Bordreaux was a testament to one of the bloodiest revolutions of all time- the French Revolution. She watches in horror as the acclaimed mistress of death steals everyone she loves- the guillotine. Finally, toting one more burden in the form of a secret to peaceful, haven-like England, Alayna is taken in by a dying, kindly old man, thinking she will live her life as his nurse. But she is wrong. Alexander Pembroke is a man of many dark sins, and after his father passes away, he finds that many vexing responsibilities fall into his lap- one in particular, a meek but lovely young woman who seems to attract danger- as well as himself. Will they find love, or is it fate that finds them first?

The text talks about the invention and use of the guillotine. It was originally written in Portuguese and aimed at children and adolescents, so whenever a less colloquially used term appears, a synonym is immediately placed next to it in brackets. The idea is to quickly facilitate the understanding of the sentence and enrich the children's vocabulary. The idea does not always work when the text is translated into another language. Terms that are less commonly used in everyday life in Portuguese may be widely used in another language, and vice versa. At the end of the text, there is an addendum with a fun quiz about what was seen in the text, to help memorize what was learned.
