When Peter fails to save Gwen after desperately trying, he sits and stares into her baby blue eyes until he hears the sirens in the distance, on their way to the clock tower. He takes one last look into the eyes of the girl he's fallen in love with and sees a faint line close to the edge of her iris. Like something he sees everyday when he looks at his eyes in the mirror.
