"All cats are grey in the dark." This is a proverb. It means that in the dark, you can't tell one cat from another. In a figurative sense, it could also mean that someone who has too little information can't properly assess the situation. They can't distinguish between good and evil. When the Demon King died, the black line separating good and evil was broken. Demons find themselves, demons seek themselves. Demons are evil, demons are good. Demons remain lonely, demons find the family they didn't know they were searching. But how can you tell them apart if you can't see in the darkness? How can you judge whether you're doing the right thing when all you can see is grey? And in the deepest darkness of ignorance, confusion, the darkness of a decline of selfishness and ignorance, only the cats seem to see through the darkness. This story is a tragedy, just like Demon Slayer. There is an ending. Is it a good one? A bad one? Is the dried cat blood on the ground worth it? Was it all worth it, were the dead, the lost, worth it, just so someone switches the light button on? Was it all worth it when you look around and realize that cat blood is just as crimson as a human's? ...Basically: "What if the hashira didn't fall into the infinity castle?" Like her father, her body grows rough and sturdy in order to protect and hunt for her family. Like her late grandmother, she grows up fast and carries the responsibilities of the Hisamaru curse. But Kouha has failed her family's teachings. Her parents and younger sisters are slaughtered before she could even suck in a breath to scream. Half of her village is destroyed, people and buildings alike burn before her eyes. Even Kouha is almost killed. Then, Oyakata and Gyoumei step into the ruins of her life. Now she uses her powers not for assisting the dead, but for battle. She trains to use her body for sword wielding, the feeling of corrupted flesh wrending under her blade leaving her satisfied and anguished. The spirits she once intended to send on their way now help her end their creators. Kouha is strong now.
