In this world, it is common for the barking of dogs to cause powerful storms charged with magic. This magic is powerful and used along things like electricity. Reddit stories exist with titles like : AITAH for hexing my ex after he CHEATED on me? The subsequent hospitals have magic wards, obvs. Everyday makes are treated like it people. A common familiar and sign of power and good luck is dogs. The cities are alive with storms and love their people. Long ago there was a prophecy of a dagger destined to kill a god, but nobody takes it super seriously now because they like their lives. Turns out when you can ask ghosts and vampires and such for advice they do well telling the government and all not to be a bunch of stupid a-holes, and people get rights. Michelangelo, notably, did try to stab the pope rather famously with the dagger after the pope passed him off. Noone realizes the peace is because the prophecy already happened, and its heros are fine with that, cause it means they won against fate. Now, gold is considered not super valuable, despite being interesting alchemically speaking. Diamonds, on the other hand, are very useful for magic and thus valuable, although diamond for romantic purposes is thought tacky, and only cool in like an armband made by you or someone close to you for magic. The gold rush never happened, instead a rush to the west for the diamond rattlesnakes. Now modern cowboys exist in this world, and often run ETHICAL rattlesnake farms, and sell the shed skin. Cowboy familiar tend to be rattlesnakes, as these in this world are very smart and protective, and only dangerous if you hurt them they are deeply imbued with magic, like the dogs, and are also widely considered good pets.
