Chapter One
The Class Rep
The first time I noticed Amanda properly was on a hot Monday morning during our Educational Management lecture.
The classroom was noisy as usual. Some students were arguing at the back, others were busy pressing their phones under the desk, and the lecturer had not even arrived yet.
Then Amanda stood up from the front row with a long sigh.
"Can everybody please keep quiet for once?" she said loudly. "Some of us are already stressed enough."
The funny thing was... people actually listened.
Or at least they tried to.
Amanda was our class rep - the kind everybody knew whether they liked her or not. She was strict, organized, and always carried herself like someone ten years older than the rest of us.
Personally, I found her slightly intimidating.
Okay, maybe very intimidating.
She always had neatly arranged notes, perfectly ironed clothes, and this confident way of speaking that made lecturers take her seriously. Even when students complained about her being too controlling, nobody could deny that she handled the class well.
I sat somewhere in the middle row beside my friend Anita, trying my best not to pay attention to Amanda.
Unfortunately, that became impossible.
"Why are you staring at her like that?" Anita whispered suddenly.
"I'm not staring."
"You literally haven't blinked for thirty seconds."
I rolled my eyes and faced my notebook immediately while Anita laughed quietly beside me.
The truth was, Amanda was hard not to notice.
Not because she was the most beautiful girl in school - although she was definitely beautiful - but because she carried this calm confidence that pulled people toward her naturally.
She rarely smiled in class, but whenever she did, it completely changed her face.
And for some strange reason, I had started waiting to see it.
