For loner and self-proclaimed social outcast Hikigaya Hachiman, high school was nothing more than a parade of shallow interactions, fake smiles, and the death of authenticity. Living by the motto that "youth is a lie," he spends his days avoiding people, drifting through school life at the bottom rung of the social ladder. That is, until one extremely unfortunate (or possibly cursed) afternoon, when he opens the door to an empty classroom-only to catch Takane Takamine, the perfect and untouchable student council president, halfway through changing her clothes. Before he can even process the embarrassment, something stranger happens. He watches Takamine receive a less-than-perfect score on a test, remove her underwear, and suddenly-time rewinds. The same scene plays out, but this time she aces the exam. Unfortunately, because Hikigaya witnessed her in that vulnerable moment, he's now permanently linked to her ability, forced to travel back in time with her whenever she uses it. Now bound by secrecy and convenience, Takamine blackmails Hikigaya into becoming her "closet," supplying her with spare underwear every time she uses her mysterious power. What follows is a twisted co-dependence between a girl obsessed with perfection and a boy who sees no value in it. But as timelines rewind, mistakes are erased, and façades are maintained, Hikigaya begins to realize there's more to Takamine than her flawless reputation. Beneath the control, the coldness, and the mystery lies a girl desperate to never be seen as weak. And as he's pulled deeper into her world of false starts and second chances, Hikigaya must confront the one thing he's always avoided: What would it mean to genuinely care for someone who doesn't want to be known?
