A year has gone by since Jake became the American Dragon, his missions were getting more dangerous and risky. His grandfather believed he needed help but Jake claims he can do it all alone. To make the students more involved with history, the school board decided to host a family tree event. Every student must participate in sharing their families roots and culture, but most important is to write an essay on one ancestor who they see as a hero. Rather they have made a big impact to the world or to their families. Jake struggles to search for anyone in his family that doesn't exposes his mother's family secret, but when a fight with Eli lead Jake, Haley, and Fu-dog to travel back in time. Back to the time where, hybrid animals excited, to where humans can bend four elements in four different forms of Chinese martial arts. Back to where Jake's family were once firebenders and were once of royalty of an entire Nation.
