James Ellis is an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper, a special operations branch of the United Nations Space Command. Part of fireteam Kilo-Five he's trained to fight in the toughest situations behind enemy lines. After months of fighting the insurrectionist forces on the planet Reach, Kilo-Five has been assigned another black op; assassinate an enemy spy as retaliation for the newest series of insurgent bombings. Things start off normal but the mission quickly takes a turn for the strange with the arrival of a new ally, and the whispers and rumors surrounding them has the entire fireteam question both their roll in the conflict, and their own loyalties. However, all of that may be for nothing as an even greater threat looms in the depths of space, waiting for its time to strike at the heart of Reach and humanity as a whole.

Everything was going perfectly. Tom and I were doing well, as far as our military education was concrned. Our older brother, Cadmon, was gone.
