They say the streets of Brooklyn are cleaner now. They lied. Nico Moretti is a ghost from a world that no longer exists. After 30 years behind bars, he steps out into a 2026 Brooklyn that smells of plastic and neon instead of coal and sweat. The old rules are dead, replaced by shadows you can't see and enemies you can't touch. But Nico didn't come back to fit in. He came back for what's his. Armed with nothing but his scars and a "high-tech prosthesis" that sees what human eyes miss, Nico begins a one-man war against the new underworld. This isn't just a story about the future. It's about a man who refuses to become a relic. Welcome to the Storm. The wolves are hungry.

Allow me to introduce myself: the name's Dylan Neville. I'm a decent writer, a good cook, and (if I do say so myself) the sharpest shot in the City. Nice to meet you all. Well, I found out the hard way that there's only so many bridges you can burn before you've got no more places to run. So I had to turn to my brother, currently sitting on his newly minted detective agency and looking for assistants. Ryan spent most of our childhood as an amateur sleuth. But I'd say there are significant differences between being a kid detective and doing the business as an adult. For instance; your name gets stamped above the door for the mighty convenience of anyone who wants you dead. Can't say this is how I imagined spending my twenties. But hey, I've got nowhere else to go. Might as well make the best out of it.

When you're powerful and you want something done, you call Charlie Talbott. He will ask only the basic questions and give you the best results. There isn't a better fixer in town, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have an agenda of his own. In this collection of short stories you'll see the inner workings of a broken, unequal system, the privileged few who fully depend on the status quo and the people who profit from it all.

I went to a movie with some friends. I’d mistakenly predicted a particular twist ending, so at dinner afterward I innocently asked one of my friends whether he had also expected the same ending. Apparently, a man at the next table mistakenly thought I blurted out the end of the movie. (I did not.) On his way out, he grumbled something along the lines of “I hope you know that you ruined the movie for us,” and then he was gone. I was too stunned to do anything other than go home and write this story. ("Ruin" copyright 2006, originally appeared on the blog Flashing in the Gutters.)

Buona lettura!
