Hardin Young is a bright-eyed high school graduate eagerly awaiting his first day at Washington Central University. Hardin moves into his dorm with the help of his mother, Carol, and his girlfriend, Nicole. Hardin meets his new roommate Steph and Steph's girlfriend Tristan. Hardin shares a brief encounter with Steph's friend Tessa Scott. Steph persuades Hardin to attend a party, but it comes to light about Hardin's virginity. Hardin meets with Landon, who reveals to him that he and Tessa are soon to become step siblings, with his mother engaged to Tessa's father. Nicole surprises Hardin with a visit. In a game of "truth and dare," Hardin and Molly kiss, making Tessa jealous and leading to a physical confrontation. Hardin leaves Nicole sleeping in bed to check in on Tessa, who has destroyed the house in a drunken rage. Hardin comforts Tessa, and they kiss. Hardin returns to his dorm to check on Nicole, who discovers his affair with Tessa and leaves him, heartbroken. Tessa trusts Hardin with a deep, dark secret from her past, but when it gets out... a personal secret... To be mean, Molly tells Tessa the secret is out and everyone knows. Tessa's friends rally around her to support her, but Tessa spirals and starts drinking again to block out the hurt and betrayal.
