Hartsville Stories

Caroline is a young woman living in the little Southern town of Hartsville. Recently her fiance has been murdered, and though the rest of the town knows it, Caroline is too overcome by hopeless love that she cannot bring herself to accept his death.

This is a story about a girl struggling to stay normal, and a curse that would forbid her of such a privilege. Just a few months ago, I would have taken advantage of how wonderful it was to just be… Normal. The word itself didn’t even sound the same. I would give anything for my mother to hug me, tell me she loved me, and genuinely mean it again. I would give my life for my father to start a conversation with me, without it being forced, and without the cautious look that lingered behind his eyes. Like I was broken, unfixable… Like it was only a matter of time…The life I lived before my entire world blew up seemed so distant now. It was a life I wasn’t fully prepared to leave behind. A life I wasn’t ready to forget. But here I was. I was the disease that couldn’t be cured.
