Tachibana Makoto is a doctor who is very experienced. He lives alone, or at least did, before he took the young, Nanase Haruka into his care after a his parents died in an accident. Haruka was only ten years old. Knowing that he would have a new parent, Haruka tries to be as well behaved as he can, despite the autoimmune disease he has, vasculitis. As well as the task of growing up with one parent, and it wasn't even his own.

After noticing Haruka's odd behavior, the Iwatobi Swim Team heard that Rin took him to Australia; They knew that everything would turn out alright since Rin knew how to solve situations most of the time, but what they didn't know was that this situation was bad, going to worse.

Emi has returned to Iwatobi after her parents divorce, she remembers her old friends from when she was a child. Swimming was never the same after she moved away, After she reunites with her old friends, theres something different within their friendships, but she can't work out what it is. Ever since he was a little kid, Haru hid how he truly felt about his best friend, Rin. The two bonded over their love of swimming; it had made them feel connected. Upon the day Rin arrived back to Japan from Australia, Haru finally mustered the courage to confess to him. Rin however, challenges him to a race before anything could be said. As the latter won, Rin was infuriated, leaving Haru once again. As years pass, Haru tries to forget about his heartache, but was met face to face yet again with a familiar stranger, Rin. Would Haru finally be set free from the chains of Rin's cruel heart holding him captive? Or will he be forced to heal his own brokenness?

haruka and sousuke dated in middle school but broke up when rin moved to Australia with his family and sousukes so they went separate until they return back to Japan joining the iwatobi swim club even though sousuke has changed as he grew taller and more different than he was as a kid but haru is nervous on seeing his ex again but all their friends even makoto and rin want to reconnect them since they loved each other all through middle school now that they are in highschool they could reconnect

Haru has had a history of blood disorders throughout his childhood, his grandmother was diagnosed with cancer. The swim club meets up to "study", when Haru feels inexplicably ill. They find out Haru has AML, but has been ignoring his symptoms long enough for the cancer to become fatal. Begining set during the summer between Haru and Makoto's 2nd and 3rd years, and continues from there. I haven't included Sousuke's shoulder because that's too many feels. Also graduating isn't put in this because I'm not sure if Haru will live long enough.(Also I don't need to be reminded that the first wednsday without Free! has passed...)
