Harua never wanted to leave Japan, but his father's overseas job transfer gave him no choice. Thrust into an unfamiliar American high school, everything feels overwhelming. Lonely and homesick, Harua begins counting down the days until he can finally return home. Then he meets Maki. Fluent in Japanese thanks to his family, Maki becomes the first person Harua can truly understand. With friends from Korea and Taiwan who also speak Japanese, Maki effortlessly bridges the gap between Harua and the world around him. What starts as a chance encounter soon grows into an unlikely friendship, giving Harua the confidence to navigate a place that once felt impossibly foreign. As Harua slowly learns that home isn't always a place but the people who make you feel seen, he begins to wonder if this move wasn't the end of his life in Japan, but the beginning of something he never expected.
