Taking place in modern-day Tokyo, the story follows a high school student Ren Amamiyia known by the codename Joker who transfers to a new school after he is framed for assault and put on probation. Over the course of a school year, he and other students awaken to a special power, becoming a group of secret vigilantes known as the Phantom Thieves of Hearts. They explore the Metaverse, a supernatural realm born from humanity's subconscious desires, to steal malevolent intent from the hearts of adults and change their hearts.

Nolan Woods is an Australian transfer student to Shujin Academy, his parents ended up passing away due to the mental shutdown incidents, causing him to live with Tae Takemi above the clinic in a similar situation to Ren Amamiya, the only difference is that Nolan doesn't have an assault charge. Filled with determination to find out about the mental shutdown incidents, Nolan Works with the Phantom Thieves to uncover the mystery behind the mental shutdowns and the evil that's causing it. Disclaimer: I don't claim ownership for Persona 5, Nolan Woods is my own character. However, I will add specific enemies for Nolan to fight against throughout the story to make things interesting. Ren's parents have been arguing, and now they are getting a divorce. To find his own peace, Ren decides to return to Cafe Leblanc in Yongen-Jaya. But things seem to get worse, as he gets in arguments and finally decides to be a shut-in. The Phantom Thieves try to reach out to him, but nothing seems to be able to get to Ren. With a little bit of help, the group of teens manage to access the Metaverse that has reformed once again. And to their surprise, they discover a palace. Ren doesn't have that many friends growing up, but he had always been helpful and kind to the others, despite his tarnished reputation due to assaulting the king. Of course, no one knew what really happened, and they refused to believe it. But that was all in the past, and it has almost been a year since then. Surely people have forgotten about it by now, right..? Well, his whole life is about to take a turn as a new path has laid out before him. Not only will he have to fight for the justice of society, he will also have to fight for the justice of their blossoming love. Would he be able to take the risk?
