Said book was written by Melissa Meyers, and is very interesting and capturing. I highly recommend you read it.

(Sequel to Marissa Meyer's Heartless) It's been a year since Catherine became queen of hearts and things are going down hill. And before she became the queen she gave her heart to the sisters. And before she gave her heart up her beloved Jest was slain before her very eyes. That brings us to the present day. Executions happen weekly. The people are getting scared that they will be next. But at a particular execution an old friend of Catherine's tells her that her heart is the thing that can save the only thing she still loves.

Heartless, Marissa Meyer. Queen Catherine of Hearts was ruthless and cold-hearted. Trading her broken heart to the Fates in exchange for revenge, the innocent girl who just wanted to start a bakery with her maid friend is lost, and all that remains is an empty girl. Or perhaps she is not empty, but overflowing with anger and revenge and vengeance, or perhaps that is all she can remember anymore and she truly is empty, running on mimicked emotions that she can't actually feel. She is Queen, now, and Jest is long dead. Peter Peter's corpse hangs from the castle's gates. A reminder to all to never forget Her Majesty's wrath. Jest watches, hopeless and helpless. He can do nothing but watch the girl he loved transform into a monarch, his friends transformed into a murderer and a madman. A Queen, an executioner and a mad hatter. The land of Chess is at war. Before falling in love with Catherine, our beloved Jest met Princess Lily, the daughter of the White Queen. The ongoing war between the red and white queendoms may require the gracious jester to have a courtship with the princess, a girl he hardly knows, to save his country. ~Jest's life may have ended in the land of Hearts, but this is his life as a Rook (and jester?) in Chess.~ (NOTE: This is a prequel to Heartless. ALSO: This suggests romance, but there isn't any. I'm a hardcore JestXCath shipper.)
