Yukiko Mori was eleven years old when she transferred to Class 6-A of Jinbo Elementary School on a grey Tuesday in November. She did not make a fuss. She bowed at the front of the classroom, said her name in a voice just loud enough to reach the back row, and sat down. The class moved on within minutes. All except one boy by the window, who had already turned away - but had noticed, in the small, careful way he noticed everything, that the new girl had not looked nervous at all. Just - still.
