Hazel and her mom go on what she was told to be a family vacation but she begins to worry that something might be wrong when they take a late night flight in a small plane to the middle of nowhere with not a soul in sight. When her mom begins to act strange Hazel worries that they might be in some sort of trouble and faithfully follows her mom's rules even if they are a bit strange. 1. No fires in the open after dark 2. Do everything she was told without question 3. Leave no trace of their presence on the beach 4. If she ever saw a plane or boat, she was to hide immediately 5. Stay within the edge of the tree line after dark 6. No distress signals Her biggest fear is whatever they are hiding from will find them. When the lights begin Hazel is worried about what they could be but is also curious and decides to scope them out from the beach. More questions come to light when she accidentally falls asleep before putting out her fire one night and the lights begin to draw nearer.
