"She was hiding under the floorboards, sir. Her parents' bodies weren't found, but we can presume they didn't make it out alive." The guard stood tall, his posture rigid as he delivered the grim news to his master.
The words hung in the air, and my ears rang with the shocking revelation. My body ached with the urge to cry, overwhelmed by a sorrow that felt foreign and distant.
