Hot shot is happy and playful little five year old. He loves his father Heatwave and his mother Quickshadow. Hot shot is a very active child and he loves to run, jump, climb and play. He is a wonderful child who doesn't sit still for a second. He loves sports and he is full of hopes and dreams. Hot shot's parents are happy to have a healthy child. But one day things change. Hot shot starts to feel unwell. He is out of breathe, tired, dizzy, he has passed out a couple of times, he has swollen legs, and ashy tone to his skin. His parents take him right away to Cincinnati children's hospital. There they doctors look at Hot shot and send him to the heart institute. There many tests are done and Hot shot is diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy and is in heart failure. Hot shot's only option is a heart transplant because it is so bad. Hot shot also needs to stay in the hospital. There Hot shot makes friends with four other kids his age who also need heart transplants. Hot shot is ready for his new heart and is ready to be brave. Heatwave is a firefighter who now works at a local firehouse. Quickshadow is a pediatric nurse who now works at Cook Children's hospital They are very happy that their baby was going to be born in a few months. However there joy turns to worry when they find out their baby has a severe heart defect. They turn to Cook children's hospital who offers care for their baby. Their son is born and they name him Hot shot. Hot shot has several surgeries his first few years. Hot shot has friends he made at the hospital with similar heart defects. Hot shot at five years old needs a new heart. He is put on the transplant list. This one might be the first one done at Cook Children's. Hot shot finds out his friends need new hearts too. They hope to get new hearts soon. (Humanized)
