In the silence of the Haworth parsonage, Emily cannot write. Her inkwell is dry. Her gentleman will not come alive. So she dreams. And on the moors, a figure emerges. Heathcliff. But creation has costs. When Emily imagines a woman fierce enough to match him, she loses them both to each other. Night after night, she tries to unmake what she made. Night after night, Catherine will not dissolve. What remains when your characters outgrow you? This is my entry for The Wattpad "WutheringHeights" Movie Reimagined Contest. It is under 3000 words, rated for readers of all ages.

They say love conquers all. This story proves it can destroy everything. Set on the brutal moors of 1960s Yorkshire, The Heights follows Catherine Earnshaw-wild, brilliant, and born into old Black wealth-and Heathcliff, a white foundling pulled from the docks and raised as both family and servant. Bound by obsession and divided by race, class, and survival, their love is forged in secrecy and sharpened by cruelty. As society closes in, Catherine is forced to choose between the man she is and the life she must live. Heathcliff disappears-only to return years later with wealth, vengeance, and a hunger that refuses to die. Told through the eyes of Ellen Dean, the woman who witnessed it all and failed to stop it, The Heights is not a romance but a reckoning: a story of forbidden love, inherited power, racialized respectability, and the dangerous lie that suffering is proof of devotion. Some soul ties save you. Some damn you.

He's been asleep for a decade. He hasn't aged a day. He is the city's most beautiful secret. Inside the glass "coffin" of the Somnigraph, Heath is a storm trapped in amber. As a bio-galvanic battery, he is the only thing keeping London's new electric grid from flickering out. To the world, he is a miracle of science; to Kit Moore, he is the ghost of a past she tried to bury. When the Institute demands a "correction" that will leave Heath a hollow shell, Kit realizes her science has become a poisoned apple. The glass is thick, the voltage is rising, and it's time for the "prince" of the moors to finally wake up-and burn the palace down. A dark Steampunk retelling where the haunting obsession of BrontΓ« meets the unhallowed science of Shelley. The moors have been traded for the hum of the electric wire, and the ghost has become the machine.

Trapped in a time loop, Heathcliff has tried everything: running, obeying... even dying. But every death brings him back to the same starting point. This time, he opens his eyes to his childhood, to the silences... to the one he thought he loved. And realizes that the truth might be even crueler than suffering itself. An original retelling of Emily BrontΓ«'s Wuthering Heights, written for the Wattpad contest #wutheringheightsmovie You can read this story even if you are not familiar with the original novel :D Additional chapters will be released after the contest, around mid-February. I write in French and translate my stories into English (AI-assisted translation, reviewed by me). The original French version is available as well.

This is my submission to the Wuthering Heights creative writing contest, and my intention is to pay homage to the classic work of Emily BrontΓ«. Therefore, I have attempted to include the elements I noticed and loved in the novel including, but not limited to: -the secondhand storytelling (key moments told by those who are not at the heart of them) -the cast of characters beyond Cathy and Heathcliff -the contrast between Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange -the tangled web of lovers This vignette peers into Cathy's perspective, framed in the discovery of her diary by Mr. Lockwood. I sought to honor the novel's removed narration style by having Cathy investigate the mystery of where Heathcliff obtained his wealth, a story I imagined her receiving secondhand! She confronts Heathcliff about her findings, and the story culminates in a confrontation of passion and obsession that makes Wuthering Heights truly remarkable. Enjoy!

Some secrets wait generations to surface. Some revenge plots span decades. And some acts of mercy change everything. When hospice nurse Eden Harrow requests assignment to Marcus Wither's final days, no one questions her dedication. They don't know she's the granddaughter of the man he destroyed. They don't know she carries her mother's locket with its cryptic inscription. They don't know that room 9 holds more than a dying mogul-it holds the end of a fifty-year cycle of cruelty. One confession. One choice. One chance to plant mercy where hatred grew.

At Wuthering Heights, love was never meant to be gentle. Bound to a man ruled by bitterness and buried grief, Isabella Heathcliff refuses to be broken by the marriage meant to punish her. When she offers her husband a bargain-power, respectability, and a future beyond the moors-she expects only peace in return. What she does not expect is change. A year later, the house is quieter. Heathcliff's fury is no longer unchecked, and in the fragile calm that follows, Isabella finds herself drawn to the man he is becoming. What begins as wary coexistence shifts into something far more unsettling: an attraction neither of them intended and can no longer ignore. The Love and Hate of Isabella Linton is a slow-burn romantic reimagining of Wuthering Heights, where desire grows not from obsession, but from restraint, choice, and the quiet moments that linger too long. NOTE FROM AUTHOR: IN THE ORIGINAL WORK, ISABELLA FACES EMOTIONAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL ABUSE AT THE HANDS OF HEATHCLIFF. I DO NOT CONDONE SUCH BEHAVIOR NOR WISH TO ROMANTICIZE IT. I JUST HAD AN IDEA AND WENT WITH IT. I HOPE YOU ENJOY! :)

Because some loves do not seek redemption...only eternity. Inspired by Wuthering Heights, by Emily BrontΓ« #wutheringheightsmovie
